Post Apocalyptic Novels Heavy on the Survival Part

Postby AndrewK » Wed Nov 30, 2016 5:50 am

Hey everyone,

I just started Station Eleven and I'm just getting into it. Now I know that this book is more about what happens *after* the apocalypse, and not *during* the apocalypse, I missed that it sped right through the event itself to set up the main story. Still looking forward to this one, but I'm now looking for suggestions on books that make the prep and survival part of the event the focus. Like, raiding grocery stores, travelling to the mountains, setting up a hideaway, resupplying in the wasted city, etc, etc.

Any recos? Ideally stuff that is well written and not prepper-type-military stuff.

Thanks for any tips - happy apocalypse, everyone.

Many of these are older and "classics," so it may be old news:

Earth Abides by George R. Stewart
Empty World, A Wrinkle in the Skin and The Death of Grass by John Christopher
Into the Forest by Jean Hegland
A Gift Upon the Shore by M. K. Wren
The Quiet Earth by Craig Harrison
Summer of the Apocalypse by James Van Pelt
Journal (Series) by Craig Buckhout
Life as We Knew It (Series) by Susan Beth Pfeffer
