For his sophomore effort, writer/director Seth Larney is turning his attention to a personal story though one that has all the trappings of science fiction.

2067 stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (no longer the little boy in The Road) as Ethan Whyte, a tunnel worker in a future world where humanity has irreversibly damaged to the Earth to the point that what's left of humanity is forced to live on artificial oxygen but this is a temporary solution since the man-made oxygen is slowly poisoning the last remnants of humanity.

Ethan, a lowly tunnel worker, is dumped into the middle of the action when the powers that be receive a message from the future asking for him. Desperate, they send Ethan, along with a companion, played by Ryan Kwanten, in hopes that the pair will find some way to save humanity.

Larney has a long career in the movie industry, having worked on the visual effects side of filmmaking going back to The Matrix Reloaded so it's not very surprising to see that 2067 looks gorgeous and while the structure (going to the future to save the past) is well-treaded, I'm curious to see how Larney has made this his own.

2067 will open theatrically and be available on digital and VOD on October 2.
