Marina Antunes [Celluloid 07.16.20] United Kingdom scifi horror

If you saw Brandon Cronenberg's feature film debut Antiviral, you already know that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Antiviral was creepy AF and featured the same kind of body horror David Cronenberg is known for.

For his follow-up, the younger Cronenberg is doubling down on the body horror and terror with Possessor.

Andrea Riseborough stars as Tasya, an assassin for a secretive organization that possesses the capability to send operatives into other people's bodies to commit crimes, often assassinations, for high-paying clients. As one would expect, the process is not always easy and during one particular assignment, Tasya finds herself trapped inside a mind that threatens to kill her.

Along with Riseborough, the film also stars Christopher Abbott, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Sean Bean, Tuppence Middleton and Rossif Sutherland.

The first trailer for Possessor suggests an even darker and more disturbing story and Cronenberg seems to be diving head-first into the lo-fi sci-fi/horror genre that worked so well for his father's career and which he showed early signs of embracing in Antiviral.

Possessor is coming later this year. Let the anticipation brew.
