What happens when a deeply religious nurse finds herself caring for an atheist? She becomes completely obsessed with saving her employer's soul. And things get terribly ugly.

Rose Glass' feature film debut Saint Maud stars Jennifer Ehle as the patient and Morfydd Clark, who's had a very busy year including a notable appearance in "His Dark Materials," as Maud who, by most accounts, gives an outstanding performance as a religious fanatic.

The film, which premiered at TIFF's Midnight Madness program earlier this year, may well devolve into a horror film with a supernatural bend but it has also been praised for Glass' intense character study and the nuanced portrayal of obsession and devotion.

The first trailer for the film certainly suggests great things to come though it definitely helps that this is being released by A24, a group that certainly has excellent tasted when it comes to psychological horror.

Saint Maud opens March 27.
