Marina Antunes [Celluloid 03.06.19] documentary

Nearly everyone knows about the DeLorean with its gull-wing doors and stainless steel finish, as the iconic time machine in the Back to the Future franchise. What some may not be so familiar with is John DeLorean, the founder of the company whose life plays like something out of a Hollywood movie.

A documentary which features what appears to be fairly substantial re-enactments which play more like a movie (including featuring recognizable stars) than a typical re-enactment, Framing John DeLorean is the first go at telling the story of John DeLorean which, according to his own son, is filled with drugs, models, politicians and explosions.

The doc stars Alec Baldwin as DeLorean, Morena Baccarin as his wife, model Cristina Ferrare, and Josh Charles.

I have a soft spot for documentaries that don't fit the usual mould and Framing John DeLorean certainly looks like it features an interesting hybrid approach, but a really great documentary is only as good as its subject matter and it seems that John DeLorean was certainly an interesting character.

Framing John DeLorean will open theatrically and be available on VOD June 7.
