Marina Antunes [Celluloid 07.18.18] thriller

What exactly is going on in writer/director Sebastian Gutierrez's latest film Elizabeth Harvest is not fully apparent from the trailer but there are some clues that suggest this movie could have something in common with Ex Machina. Or maybe it's about cloning. Either way, it's shaping up to be a great looking thriller.

Here's what we do know: Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) stars as Elizabeth, a young mail-order-bride of Henry, a brilliant scientist played by Cirian Hinds. He takes her home to a secluded house where the house staff, played by Carla Gugino and Matthew Beard, treat her with utmost respect but Elizabeth can't shake the feeling that something is just a bit off and when she enters the one room in the house her husband tells her is off limits, things get sinister.

I'm intrigued by the trailer which suggests that Hinds is meddling with some sordid business while Gugino is clearly more than just the housekeeper.

All will be revealed when Elizabeth Harvest lands in theatres and on VOD August 10.
