Marina Antunes [Celluloid 05.30.17] thriller



Lynne Ramsay is back and she's not messing around. After the drama surrounding her leaving Jane Got a Gun, the director is finally back with a new movie.


Adapted from Jonathan Ames' novel, You Were Never Really Here stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joe, a war veteran who is trying to save a young girl from a sex trafficking ring but whose attempt to do so goes horribly wrong.


Phoenix took home a top acting prize for his role, for which he seemed completely shocked, and though he's very hit-and-miss for me, the fact that Ramsay has embraced him for the role is promising.



The first clip from the film provides a glimpse to what we can expect from Phoenix and Ramsay: darkness and violence to come.


You Were Never Really Here doesn't yet have a release date - Ramsay advised the film is still being edited - but will be released by Amazon Studios.
