Yes, the whole idea of The Purge - one night where nothing is illegal and all civic services are shut down - is a tad ridiculous, but as a movie conceit it's hard to deny how kind of awesomely effective it is and easy to build a franchise around.

This third time up to bat, the story is about a Senator, played by "Lost" star Elizabeth Mitchell, who thinks the purge is a mistake and wants to end it. Obviously, she becomes a major target so on the night of the purge, she finds herself under the protection of the best guy to keep you alive: Frank Grillo, returning to reprise his role.

Two years after choosing not to kill the man who killed his son, former police sergeant Barnes has become head of security for Senator Charlene Roan, the front runner in the next Presidential election due to her vow to eliminate the Purge.

A new. disturbing trailer for the film has dropped and I can't deny it looks absolutely terrifying in it's depiction of a world gone mad. Bring it on.

The Purge: Election Year opens July 1st.

Recommended Release: the Purge: Anarchy
