Marina Antunes [Celluloid 04.08.16] scifi action



If you haven't yet caught up with Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow by now, you have no excuse. The movie was a sleeper hit with mainstream audiences – likely slow go because no one knew exactly what the movie was about (the trailers were confusing as all hell) and no one really knew what the hell the movie was called. Was it Edge of Tomorrow or Live. Die. Repeat.? The two were used pretty much interchangeably so yeah... big marketing snafu.


Regardless, hardcore sci-fi fans flocked to it and the movie did eventually find its footing with audiences and for good reason. It's really good! It even made our list of favourite movies of 2014! Since the movies' release there's been talk about a possible sequel but it's all been speculation. Until now.



Deadline is reporting that the sequel is indeed in the works and that writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, who have been on a hot streak of adaptations of late, have been tapped to write the script. Apparently both Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are expected to return for the sequel which will be directed by current Cruise go-to director Christopher McQuarrie (who was also one of the writers on Edge of Tomorrow).


Hopefully we'll be hearing much more about this project in the coming months!

Such a terrific movie. It certainly wasn't crying out for a sequel, but hopefully they can come up with something interesting.

Christopher McQuarrie has tweeted he will be producing/writing. Australian director Doug Liman is set once again to direct.
