John Connor [Celluloid 03.15.16] scifi horror thriller mystery

Last night, SXSW attendees were treated to the world premier screening of bad Robot's 4K remaster of Don Coscarelli's beloved horror classic, Phantasm. In attendance were director/writer Don Coscarelli as well as actor A. Michael Baldwin (PHANTASM series), Kathy Lester (PHANTASM series), Paul Pepperman (Co-producer, PHANTASM, Co-writer THE BEASTMASTER)

As a special guests, J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Chloe Coscarelli (Vegan Chef) also made an appearance to introduce the film and take questions.

The residents of a small Oregon town have begun dying under mysterious circumstances. Upon the death of a family friend, thirteen-year-old Mike finds himself compelled to investigate. After discovering that the town’s mortician (a sinister and malevolent character Mike nicknames “the Tall Man”) is responsible for murdering and reanimating the dead, Mike seeks help from his older brother, Jody, and best friend and ice cream man Reggie.

Working together, these three friends must break into a local mausoleum, lure out and confront the Tall Man, all the while avoiding his dangerous minions and his wicked flying chrome killing device, the deadly silver sphere.

If you missed the screening. never fear. The next SXSW screening of the film will be on Wednesday, March 16 at 11:45 PM at Alamo Lamar A in Austin, TX.
