Marina Antunes [Celluloid 01.20.16] horror thriller

Aside from The Witch (review), one of the other movies left over from last year's festival circuit which I'm most excited to see is The Invitation.

Directed by Karyn Kusama of Girlfight, Aeon Flux and Jennifer's Body fame, The Invitation stars Logan Marshall-Green and Emayatzy Corinealdi as a couple on their way dinner party being hosted by Marshall-Green's ex-wife. General consensus is that this is an effective horror movie - our own reviewer called it "a strong mystery film that basks in its own mountains of crazy" - and one that you should go into with as little knowledge as possible so I'll stop with plot descriptions here.

Keeping up the notion that knowing as little as possible is the best way to go into it, the first trailer for The Invitation doesn't give away any part of the plot or set-up but does peak curiosity with a great 60 seconds of what appears to be the worst dinner party ever. All that's missing here is a dead body.

The Invitation opens March 25.
