Christopher Webster [Celluloid 09.08.15] horror thriller

Not to be confused with another horror film of the same name currently in production, THIS Dark Below is not a H.P. Lovecraft inspired film, but rather a great looking thriller in the vein of Buried.

In the film directed by Douglas Schulze, a kidnapper traps Rachel, a young woman in a wetsuit, and holds her prisoner under the ice of a frozen lake. Sounds chilling doesn't it? Get it?

Official Write-up:
The Dark Below is Douglas Schulze's (Dark Fields) new stunt, while waiting to shoot the sequel of his clever Mimesis, he crafts for us a Machiavellian and claustrophobic thriller in line with Buried. Shot in a natural setting in the heart of winter around (and mostly in) Michigan's Great Lake, with an economy of speech who leaves us with a constant tension, the film can rely on his actors – among which the legendary Veronica Cartwright (Alien, The Town That Dreaded Sundown) – who transcends one of the most diabolical script.

The Dark Below is in competition at the L'Etronage Festival where it recently screened in France.
