Marina Antunes [Celluloid 07.10.15] post apocalyptic scifi thriller

Around this time last year, we saw the first footage form the upcoming scifi thriller Air. Starring Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou, the story unfolds in a future where the world has fallen into an environmental (or perhaps nuclear) apocalypse. Hounsou and Reedus play the keepers of an underground bunker who are tasked with maintaining the systems that keep the last remnants of humanity alive.

This isn't a new concept but the movie directed by relative newcomer Christian Cantamessa showed a bit of promise though much of the excitement was attributed to Reedus' casting even though it looks like he's playing a version of his "The Walking Dead" character. The movie also garnered quite a bit of buzz thanks to the involvement of said TV show's creator and producer Robert Kirkman who is also a producer on the movie.

When the first trailer was released at SDCC last year, we expected the movie would arrive late in the year on in early 2015 and I'd completely forgotten about it until another trailer appeared yesterday. Now looking back at that first clip, it's clear the project was still in post production. This newly minted trailer is not only a little more polished but it also gives us far more of the story.

Air opens August 14.
