Marina Antunes [Cathode Ray Mission 05.07.15] scifi drama

Many think the Wachowskis lost their way with Jupiter Ascending but any fan of the siblings who watched that movie, and I mean watched and really paid attention, would immediately realise it's a Wachowski movie. Big world building, soap-opera level drama and dialogue, bombastic action sequences... it's all there. It just happens to be wrapped in a story that didn't hit the mark with most of the traditional Wachowski audience. But this isn't a defence of Jupiter Ascending (though if you haven't seen it, I recommend giving it a go with an open mind. It's far more fun than you've heard) but rather a fresh update on "Sense8."

Originally announced in 2013 and slated with a 2014 release date that came and went without fanfare, "Sense8" is now slated for a summer Netflix release and we've got a first look at the sci-fi drama created by the Wachowskis and "Jeremiah" showrunner Joe Straczynski.

Featuring an ensemble cast including "Lost" star Naveen Andrews, Daryl Hannah and Doona Bae (Jupiter Ascending, Cloud Atals (review)), the series follows eight individuals who share a consciousness and can access each other's knowledge and skills at any time. How and why they're connected isn't revealed but I expect that all will be explained in due time.

All 12 episodes of "Sense8" will be available on Netflix June 5.

They borrowed the idea from the 'telepathic corps' in the Chtorr saga of David Gerrold.
