Marina Antunes [Cathode Ray Mission 05.13.15] United Kingdom scifi drama

UK viewers watching Prometheus (review) on TV a few days back were treated to what appeared to be a 30 second spot for Persona Synthetics, a company selling human cyborgs.

It came out of no where and it freaked people out. What's worse (or better depending on how you look at it) is that when you search for Personal Synthetics, you could easily end up on eBay looking at a Sally Synth available for purchase for a mere £20,000 or the company website which outlines the details of the new synths. It's all one excellent promo scheme for the upcoming Channel 4 drama "Humans" which stars William Hurt and Katherine Parkinson in the drama "set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for a busy family is a synth - an advanced robotic servant."

It's a clever bit of perfectly timed and executed marketing and though we haven't seen anything from the show itself, the concept is certainly ripe for storytelling.

"Humans" airs the first of its eight episodes on June 4 in the UK while AMC will also air the show in North America in June.
