Marina Antunes [Celluloid 03.09.15] scifi adventure family

We were intrigued by the teaser trailer for the upcoming Disney sci-fi production Tomorrowland and really, how could we not be? The movie is co-written by Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird and also directed by Bird who made a big splash with his live-action debut Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and his follow-up certainly looks interesting, even if it is based on a theme park.

Britt Robertson stars as Casey Newton, a teen girl who finds a pin that transports her into Tomorrowland. It seems that in this place between time, she meets a former boy genius, played by George Clooney, and the pair embark on a journey to save Tomorrowland. Or at least I think that's what's going on. The trailer is a bit vague on the machinations of the story and the plot description from Disney is equally non-descript.

I like Bird and I'm curious what he and Lindelof, both very creative individuals, have come up with. If nothing else, Tomorrowland should make for great family friendly sci-fi adventure.

Tomorrowland opens May 22.
