Marina Antunes [Celluloid 02.10.15] New Zealand horror comedy

New Zealand director Jason Lei Howden made a bit of a splash last year with a festival run of his short sci-fi western The Light Harvester but nothing could prepare folks who saw that short for his full length feature Deathgasm.

Written and directed by Howden, who in addition to writing and directing has also earned a living working on visual effects for some major productions, Deathgasm is a horror comedy about a pair of teenage boys who love heavy metal and start a band. They discover an ancient piece of sheet music which gives them great power but also summons an ancient evil entity and from the looks of the trailer, they go ahead and play the damned thing only to find themselves trying to send said entity back to whence it came and save humanity in the process!

It sounds like good fun and the trailer suggests a few laughs to be had along with more than a touch of violence.

Deathgasm will have its world premiere at SXSW.
