Paramount Pictures has released the official trailer for Alan Taylor‘s Terminator: Genisys and it will twits your mind into knots.
From what I can tell - and I'm going to have to watch this 20 more times to figure all this out - we pick up at the point in the story where Kyle Reese offers to go back in time to protect Sarah Conner from the T-800 in the original Terminator. But, in this movie, when he gets there, they've already succeeded and Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) blasts into the familiar clothing store shouting, "Come with me if you want to live!"
From there, things go completely bannanas and I can't help but think this script might just completely alter our perceptions of the franchise -- maybe even in a good way.
Synopsis:
Sarah Connor isn't the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton's steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991's T2. Rather, the mother of humanity's messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she's been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger's Terminator—an older T-800 she calls "Pops"—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who's great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.
The film was designed to possibly be the first film in a new trilogy.

The preview looks much better than the other day, but it still breaks all kinds of canon. Now it might have a good reason, plot, explanation for doing so, which hasn't been revealed yet, but if it doesn't, then it's got to be the dumbest plot I've ever had the misfortune of seeing.
You watch, it's an "alternative" earth where the first move never existed (as far as Sarah being an naive 18 year old waitress). Is that idiot writer from Prometheus involved in this? I refuse to watch anything he's got a hand in.

but scenes from the first Terminator occur in this film.

Wow the hate for this trailer on YouTube is amazing... maybe I'm just dumb but it looks a lot like T2 which was a pretty amazing film. I don't think any Terminator film will ever live up to the first film but what franchise ever does? This in my opinion looks like a pretty solid film. Yea they changed the story line / time line a bit but that IS what the entire franchise is about... changing the timeline so that we have a better chance at winning the war and/or stopping judgement day.

Which is odd considering the overwhelming love dor the T Salvation trailer was crazy I remember.
Stylistically, I think this film straddles a line mostly between T2 and T3, with a little T1 flavouring. I' definitely interesting to see how the story straddles the cannon.
