Marina Antunes [Film Festival 07.16.14] thriller

Later this month director Sarah Adina Smith is going to be making her feature film debut at Fantasia Film Festival with The Midnight Swim.

The indie thriller stars Lindsay Burdge, Jennifer Lafleur and Aleksa Palladino as three half-sisters who return home to settle the family affairs when their mother goes missing in nearby Spirit Lake. June (Burdge) is a documentary filmmaker and she decides to document the homecoming. Things get ugly when jokingly, the sisters summon a local ghost.

It sounds like a pretty typical thriller but the trailer for The Midnight Swim looks anything but typical and not at all the paint by number thriller one might expect. It's ethereal and beautiful and very eerie.

The Midnight Swim, which Smith also wrote, will premiere July 27.
