Marina Antunes [Celluloid 05.08.14] Switzerland horror vampires

Swiss director Olivier Beguin made quite the bloody splash last year with his debut feature Chimeres which played all of the major international genre festivals and even won awards at a few of them.

Yannick Rosset and Jasna Kohoutova star as Alexander and Livia respectively, two travelers on vacation in Romania. Alex is hit by a car and hospitalized where, as part of treatment, he is given a blood transfusion. All seems well until he returns home and begins to suffer from a strange disease that makes him sensitive to light, his teeth grow and gives Alex some creepy blood soaked hallucinations. It's not hard to figure out almost from the get go that he's turning into a vampire.

I know I'm in the minority when it comes to new vampire movies since I'll pretty much take all that I can get but I can't say I'm really feeling the love for this one. It feels a little too close to Midnight Son (review), a movie I have a real soft spot for, but I'm curious to see if Beguin manages to bring anything new to the table.
