Marina Antunes [Celluloid 01.08.14] Iran thriller

An "Iranian Vampire Western?" That's how Ana Lily Amirpour's debut feature A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is described and those three words alone are enough to get my attention not to mention I'm really interested to see how this ever got past the Iranian sensors.

The first teaser for Amirpour's movie doesn't reveal much aside from the fact that the movie is in black and white and atmospheric but I like what little I'm seeing. And really, the story of a vampire who goes around stalking unsavoury types is right up my alley.

The official Sundance synopsis reads:

Strange things are afoot in Bad City. The Iranian ghost town, home to prostitutes, junkies, pimps and other sordid souls, is a bastion of depravity and hopelessness where a lonely vampire stalks its most unsavory inhabitants. But when boy meets girl, an unusual love story begins to blossom... blood red.

There seems to be a problem with the embbed but click twice on the box to see the trailer full screen.
