The re-emergence of Hammer films a few years back was not much of a surprise. What did come as a surprise was the quality of the material they were putting out first with their involvement in the excellent remake of The The Right One In (review) Let Me In (review) which they then followed up with the equally good The Woman in Black.

Last Halloween Hammer unleashed a teaser trailer for their latest horror, a period piece titled The Quiet Ones which is derived from true story of a professor who engages his students in a very unorthodox experiment: to create a poltergeist.

Admittedly the trailer and story borrow from a number of other horror movies, some of them quite recent, but with John Pogue behind the came and a script co-written by Oren Moverman (of The Messenger and Rampart fame) this is looking and sounding more promising. Mix in the fact that Sam Claflin really impressed in last year's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and this has potential written all over it.

The Quiet Ones opens April 25th.

The title made me laugh, 'cause right off I was struck by how incredibly creepy "The Young Ones" comedy would have been if they had changed nothing only make the characters all extremely quiet.
