Christopher Webster [Celluloid 12.18.13] post apocalyptic scifi action thriller adventure

Just based on the premise of the last movie my expectations were low, but there was a lot to like in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and that film went on to be a critical and financial success. Now, director Matt Reeves dives headlong into the post-apocalyptic aftermath of both a viral outbreak and genetically modified apes. There is a certain interesting melancholy here knowing what ultimately happens to humans in the long run.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

Dawn stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smith-Mcphee, Enrique Muriciano and Kirk Acevedo

The film opens on July 11th, 2014.
