Marina Antunes [Celluloid 04.18.13] Kenya drama

We're a little late to the party with this one, particularly considering that Nairobi Half Life has recently wrapped a number of screenings as part of the Feature Film Project, but it's a great looking film that should really be getting a little more attention.

The project comes from first time director David 'Tosh' Gitonga and was directed under the watchful eye of Tom Tykwer who helped produce the project as part of an initiative to bring filmmaking to Kenya. It's the story of an aspiring actor who travels to Nairobi to pursue his dream. Shortly after arriving he's robbed and finds himself penniless and alone in the big city. Out of necessity he becomes with the city's crime rings where theft and violence are commonplace while still pursuing his dream of acting.

The trailer suggests a gorgeously shot drama with great action sequences and honestly, I would expect no less from a production involving Tykwer. Here's hoping the movie sees another round of screenings or a home video release.
