Marina Antunes [Celluloid 04.19.13] United Kingdom scifi thriller

We've been eagerly anticipating the return of Little White Lies director Caradog James and with his new project set to play Tribeca this weekend, we finally have a look at The Machine in action.

Set in the near future, it's the story of a scientist charged with creating a robot for combat but when the project is put on hold, he obsessively continues to work on it in secret. Here are a few more details on the plot:

Set in the near future and with the world plunged into another cold war, Britain's Ministry of Defence is on the verge of developing a robotic soldier. This soldier, called The Machine (Caity Lotz), looks and sounds human, but has the strength, speed, and ruthlessness beyond that of any living person. The project is near completion when a bug in the programming, a side effect of it being too close to human coding, causes the prototype to destroy the lab and everyone in its path in spectacularly violent fashion. Undeterred by this setback, lead scientist Vincent McCarthy (Toby Stephens) obsessively continues his work on The Machine in secret, away from the prying eyes of those who seek to destroy him.

The images we've seen for the film looked promising (gallery below) and the newly released clip only adds to our excitement. Not only does it look fantastic, I'm particularly digging the sleek aesthetic, but it also sounds great.
