Looks like a new Terminator movie is not just a dream at the end of a very long tunnel. There have been no updates on the project since Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures bought the rights to the franchise and for a while, it looked like maybe they'd sit on the project but if today's news is any indication, it looks like maybe they were just taking their time in assembling a team.

No news yet on who will or won't be making a return to the franchise or who will be directing but news has emerged that the project, we'll just refer to it as Terminator 5 for the time being, has found writers in Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier.

The pair bring some interesting background to the project. Lussier is better known as a director but he wrote and directed Drive Angry (review) and is credited with story ideas on his other directing jobs, the ones that weren't remakes.

On the surface Kalogridis has, by far, a more interesting resume but looking back a little further than his current project, James Cameron's Battle Angel (which folks seem to think is a great thing considering Cameron is the brains behind the franchise to begin with), things don't look so golden either. He and Timur Bekmambetov co-wrote Night Watch, but then he followed it up with Alexander and Pathfinder before stricking gold again with Shutter Island. Both writers have hit and miss backgrounds but the two seem to be good friends, Kalogridis was given a special thanks in the credits of Lussier's Dracula 2000 and one can only hope that whatever they come up with is more of a return to the original movies.

It's interesting to note that Lussier tends to work as a writer/director and he doesn't have a writing credit for a movie directed by anyone else. Could this be a sign that he could end up in the director chair as well? Only time will tell.
