Marina Antunes [Celluloid 11.14.12] scifi action adventure

The Canadian film market, particularly on the West Coast, has been abuzz lately with news of cooperative projects to develop media for the Asian market but it looks like China isn't he only country getting on the Canadian co-production bandwagon.

Legendary Japanese anime director Mamoru Oshii, the man behind Ghost in the Shell and The Sky Crawlers is returning to the live action arena with The Last Druid: Garm Wars. The project was announced by The Nakamura Group Advantage, the Canadian company on board to co-produce the project which is described as:

Taking place in a world of war known as Annwn, Garm Wars sets the scene with clone soldiers from 3 military tribes, in a bloody and perpetual battle of air, land and technology. One clone, Khara, finds herself separated from battle and on the run with unlikely companions. In seeking to know more about their joint existence, the fugitives instead find an unrelenting truth and the greatest battle of their lives.

The project was initially conceived by Oshii shortly after the completion of Ghost in the Shell but has been in long hibernation due to the lack of technology to fully realize Oshii's vision. With the advances in digital technology over the last few years, Oshii feels the technology has met up to his vision and he's ready to tackle the project with the help of a new creative team.

More details on the project as they develop!
