quietearth [DVD News 10.09.12] zombies scifi horror action thriller adventure

Holy flute playing Space Jockies! Prometheus, one of the most divisive and interesting sci-fi movies in a long time finally lands on DVD and Blu-ray. For those of you who felt confused by its ambiguities and irritated by problems with what you assume should be its logic, I can only pity you. You missed out on something we rarely get in big films anymore. This is an important film, just wait and see.

Also out this week is a fantastic, blood splattered indie called A Cadarver Christmas. This fun, grindhouse zombie yarn (sorry, "Cadavar" yarn) sees a hospital janitor mopping up a hoard of undead just in time for the holidays. You can read my review here.

I never saw The Raven and didn't really follow the production, so I can't recommend it other than to say that Cusack is usually a good bet. Baltimore, 1849. While investigating a horrific double murder, police detective Emmett Fields makes a startling discovery: the killer's methods mirror the twisted writings of Edgar Allan Poe (Cusack). Suspecting Poe at first, Fields ultimately enlists his help to stop future attacks. But in this deadly game of cat and mouse, the stakes are raised with each gruesome slaying as the pair races to catch a madman before he brings every one of Poe's shocking stories to chilling life...and death.

Other released of note:

Red Dawn comes out on Blu-ray

Darren Lynn Bousman's The Barrens starring Stephen Moyer

E.T. The Extra Terrestrial hits anniversary Blu-ray.
