Christopher Webster [DVD News 09.18.12] scifi horror action adventure

The Cabin in the Woods - Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's long delayed Cabin in the Woods emerged as a critical and cultural hit and will no doubt make a lot of best of lists come January. As I said in my review "this is equal parts a celebration of horror cinema and a look at why we all demand a little horror in our lives, lest the dark beasts within us all rise and destroy this wonderful civilization we've created." I am so glad this film exists. Thank you, zombie arm.

The Game (Criterion Collection) - Bam! David Fincher's wonderfully surreal 90s thriller finally comes home on a lavish Blu-ray edition from the Criterion Collection. Two commentaries and an alternate ending make this a must own release. One of my all time favourites.

Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures - Indiana Jones gets a Blu-ray box complete with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The first three films have all been given 4k remasters and I'm reading they look pretty incredible.

Halloween II + Halloween III (Scream Factory Reissues) - Shout! Factory have started a new horror label called Scream! Factory and are kicking things off with reissues of Halloween 2 and 3. The sets are remastered and feature the same awesome attention to extras as we've seen in their recent Roger Corman Blu-rays.

Black Sunday (Blu-ray) Mario Bava's classic chiller, Black Sunday, gets a Blu-ray remaster this week. If you're a Bava virgin there's really no better place to start.

The Revenant - This breakout horror comedy centers around a fallen soldier who somehow finds he has joined the ranks of the living dead. Bart Gregory (Anders) has just recently been laid to rest - so why is he still up and walking around? The only way he can keep himself from diminishing to dust is to supply himself with a constant supply of fresh blood. He quickly decides to do law enforcement a favor by cleaning up the streets.
