quietearth [Celluloid 06.25.12] Belgium drama crime



Code 37, which was based on a tv series, follows a female cop as she investigates a prostitution ring. It enjoyed marginal success at home but seemingly hasn't seen a release anywhere else. Why am I putting it up even though it's been described as melodramatic? Because it has some stylish noirish scenes and from the looks of it, director Jakob Verbruggen's first feature makes him one to watch.

A well-known writer is assaulted in a porn cinema. He had an appointment there with Rose, a young student working as a prostitute. Police investigator Hannah Maes and her team decide to go undercover in club Sin City, a place for everyone shunning daylight and for girls who pick up their clients there. When they discover that the owner of both the porn cinema and Sin City is Rose's uncle, the case becomes personal, particularly to Hannah, because she knows only too well the damage family secrets can cause...
