"We're not going to fuck this up... Think Winter's Bone with cannibals..."

This is what director Jim Mickle (Stake Land) said after it was announced at the European Film Market that he would be remaking Jorge Michel Grau's disturbing Mexican cannibal fick, We Are What We Are ("Somos Lo Que Hay").

Revealing that he wasn't a huge fan of English speaking remakes of foreign horror films (but, don't they all), Jim Mickle said he and longtime cohort Nick Damici had finished a draft and were excited at the direction they were taking it.

Because of the above mentioned Winter's Bone, I imagine Mickle is re-setting the film in the American back-country instead of the city. While some may consider this a fairly massive change, it feels right as there very well could be some weird family that eats people out in the middle of nowhere.

This is certainly interesting news and we're looking forward to following this film's progress.

We Are What We Are is available on DVD.
