Marina Antunes [Celluloid 10.26.11] United Kingdom post apocalyptic thriller

I love when image and sound work together to create a mood of dread. That's the feeling that came to the surface as I watched, twice no less, the trailer for Chris Thomas's short film The Water's Edge.

A recent film school graduate, Thomas and his team put together this tale which takes place in a post apocalyptic world where a man is struggling to survive. The official synopsis reads:

Robert Stenuit is a lone man in an abandoned world struggling to survive alone on a mountainside. By day he watches the lake, and by night he hides in a cave from unseen predators. One day a figure appears on the far shore of the lake and disappears beneath the waters. He returns home consumed by despair, only to find something waiting for him. Something he feels compelled to pursue.

I'm really digging the look of the trailer; the dreary surroundings and the glimmer of hope that cuts through in Robert's voice as the trailer comes to a close.

The Water's Edge has been making the rounds through various film festivals and if the trailer is any indication, this 13 minute short is not to be missed.
