Steve McQueen's Hunger, a gripping and realistic look at Bobby Sands' famous 1981 hunger strike, put UK superstar Michael Fassbender on the map and earned the director top honours at the Cannes film festival. Now the two have re-teamed with actress Carey Mulligan for Shame, a film about a sex addict that's said to be no less boundary pushing.

“Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister (Carey Mulligan) moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon’s insular life spirals out of control.”

Fassbender picked up the Best Actor award at The Venice Film Festival only a few days ago, but the film was already making waves for reportedly being very intense and not shy with the full frontal. After questions about who would have the guts to pick it up, it ended up (perhaps surprisingly) getting nabbed by Fox Searchlight for U.S. distribution.

"put British superstar Michael Fassbender on the map"

eh, Michael Fassbender is not BRITISH, he's IRISH from Co. Kerry in the south of Ireland -a relation of Michael Collins apparently- hence the Irish accent. Interesting to see how this film turns out.
