Holy smokes. Where on earth did this M dot Strange character come from and where has he been hiding?! Apparently I’m the one who has been living under a box because he previously directed a film which premiered and sold at Sundance in 2007. But it really doesn’t matter though because he’s on my radar now and about to deliver what appears to be a great looking animated film.

The first teaser for Heart String Marionette is buried after a few quotes from what appear to be YouTube users and bookended by Strange selling his “how to” book (hey, a guy’s got to make a little money, especially when working independently) but the quotes and sales pitch are worth sitting through for the quick (I had to watch it twice!) look at the film which is reminiscent of Dave McKean's MirrorMask but much, much darker.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A child, a samurai mime, and a stripper with more cleavage then common sense try to stop the WOR LORD and evil clown that have turned the countryside into a never ending nightmare filled with horrible monsters.

When you died inside... the last tears your inner child cried... Heart String Marionette is a 121 minute narrative death poem dedicated to the DEATH and systematic destruction
of innocence, art and life in modern society.

An animated cinemusical experience unlike any the world has ever Experienced….

This bit of dark fantasy is still a little while away but you’d best believe we’ll be tracking this one closely.
