Christopher Webster [Celluloid 04.29.11] news horror comedy

Good news Wheddon-ites! Cabin in the Woods, the horror satire directed by Cloverfield writer Drew Goddard and co-writen by Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Serenity/Dollhouse/The Avengers director Joss Whedon will languish in MGM purgatory no more!

Deadline broke the news that Lionsgate is making a deal with MGM to distribute the movie that just last week was believed to be forever lost when the now infamous new poster was tweeted by a desperate Wheddon.

The news from Deadline also specifies that the delay in release has nothing to do with the quality of the film, but rather that when MGM went bust it needed to sell it off and that took from time.

Is it a coinsidence that the film's cast includes Chris Hemsworth, who filmed Cabin before starring as the title character in Marvel's Thor? It's worth noting that Whedon and Hemsworth will reunite on The Avengers where Hemsworth will reprise his hammer-swinging role.

It's unclear when Lionsgate will release the film, but word is that Halloween is a good bet.

Trailer please :)
