Christopher Webster [Celluloid 01.24.11] movie trailer news horror



James Wan, creator of the SAW series and director of Death Sentence is back with a creepy new film called Insidious. Word from the fest circuit is that it's actually pretty great and manages to add something different to the haunted house/possessed kid genre.

Synopsis:
A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

Insidious stars the beauteous Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson and Barbara Hershey (and not that's not a picture of Hershey to the right. Zing!)

Not entirely sure what to think of it. Not really a fan of either of those directors. I imagine heavy sound effects and flashy camera work will be the driving force behind it like Saw/PA as opposed to other films like 'The Others' which uses high a standard of acting, natural spookyness and eerieness and basically zero special effects.

I also imagine the end will be some-what inevitable and the entire film will shot in the same style as the American version of 'The Ring'

I have a very vivid imagination, so that might explain why I can easily get the creeps even from less than average trailers for horror films (note: the trailers, not the films themselves, which are sadly more often than not ridiculously improbable from the outset). I can easily get caught up in the "idea" of what could be scary.

That being said, this trailer did nothing for me in that regard. It seemed like every other MTV-esque recycle. I was bored well before this short trailer ended.

I'm probably one of the few who didnt care for Paranormal Activity, but do like the SAW series, but this didn't do much for me. Probably be a bland PG-13 flick.
