Marina Antunes [Celluloid 10.14.10] movie trailer news thriller drama crime



A few months ago we had a first look at one of the titles busy Icelandic director Olaf de Fleur Johannesson (he currently has three titles in post-production or completed for 2011) was working on. A crime drama, the first teaser for City State looked gorgeous and suggested good things to come and the new trailer, though it still doesn’t reveal much of the story, cements the feeling that this could very well be a title to look forward to in the 2011 festival circuit.

The film, which starts only one face I recognize (Jonathan Pryce hiding behind a beard), is described as:

When a foreign mafia decides to take control of the Icelandic drug market, a police woman lost in violence, a mechanic revenging for his lost son, a crime kingpin with a heart condition, a corrupt officer in love with a prostitute will destroy each other.

Crime dramas, like prison dramas, seem to be the fashion of the moment and if films being produced continue to be as fantastic as Animal Kingdom (review) or Down Terrace, I have absolutely no qualms of jumping in knowing little more than what we’ve already seen from Johannesson’s obviously gorgeous film.
