William Kaufman's feature debut, the gun-heavy assassin thriller, Prodigy, surprised viewers when it was released in 2006. Since then, I've had my eye on the newcomer's next project, a gritty detective actioner called Sinners and Saints. So you can imagine my joy when we were given an exclusive first look a the the film's explosive extended promo trailer.
Sinners brings Sean Patrick Flanery, Tom Berenge, Johnny Strong and Method Man together in a crime ridden, post-Katrina New Orleans where life on the streets is brutal and the guys at the top are finding all new ways to exploit the decaying city.
Synopsis:
In lawless storm ravaged New Orleans, beleaguered detective, Sean Riley, is trying to cope with the death of his young son and the abandonment of his wife. Facing a probable suspension from the department, Riley is teamed with a young homicide detective, Will Ganz, to help solve a series of brutal murders that have plunged the city into a major gang war. The two quickly realize there is something far more sinister going on than either could have ever imagined.
I'm really digging the vibe of this film. It's a dark vision of the city that America left behind, but a story that also seems steeped in mythological stroytelling - like early John Woo or Michael Mann at his best. It's loaded with gun-play too, but grounded in reality.
Watch the extended promo-reel after the break.
Visit the Sinners and Saints official site for more details.

It's still in post-production and looking for a decent distribution deal, so maybe not for a while yet. As soon as we know more we'll update for sure.

Very Michael Mann in my opinion...
Serious Produuction Value. The lead looks like a freak of nature and the rest of the cast ain't half bad. Keeping this one on my Radar.

This is an Action Film with a real story for once. Not just flying bullets.

malcolmY (13 years ago) Reply
Hold on. You can't compare him to Michael Mann when you haven't seen anything. Though it does look good, two minutes is a hell of a lot easier to make look good than two hours. We'll see...

i agree. though i like the look of it, it could easily still suck
