Christopher Webster [Celluloid 08.26.09] post apocalyptic movie trailer news scifi

A new Japanese trailer for Roland Emmerich's 2012 has dropped and I wouldn't have posted it but it features a whole bunch of unseen footage from the film.

According to the Mayan calendar, the world will come to an end on December 21, 2012. When a global cataclysm thrusts the world into chaos, divorced writer and father Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) uses his knowledge of the ancient prophecies to ensure that the human race is not completely wiped out.

As a side note, the History Channel has started running viral ads for "The Institute for Human Continuity" (IHC) which has been causing all kinds of confusion and subsequently a rash of comments on our post here if you're at all curious to join the conversation.

UPDATE: I added the IHC viral commercial that's been scaring the crap out of people after the break.

The IHC thing mentions flares, but it look like the movie has anything you can imagine causing the end of the world.

I'm not knocking it. It does look great but as a diehard post apocalypse fan i'm waiting for 2013...

Seems interesting. The problem with all these end of the world stories is that once the rubble stops falling, what's left for the plot? I hope 2012 came up with an interesting story to marry to the destruction.

PS: Reminds me of When Worlds Collide.
