Our own projectcyclops who saw this film at Edinburgh said the press screening was so packed, people were even sitting on the floor. He further gave it a rating of 9 out of 10 in his review and loved it. I've been dying to see the film myself, not just because of the subject matter, but it's rendition and camera work look top notch. Oddly enough, the star Katie Jarvis, was found by a talent agent while arguing with her boyfriend in a train station. She was unemployed, homeless, and is not a trained actress.
You lucky Brits will get to see it on September 11th, while those of us stateside will have to wait.
The story of Mia, a volatile 15-year-old, who is always in trouble and who has become excluded from school and ostracized by her friends. One hot summer's day her mother brings home a mysterious stranger called Connor, who promises to change everything and bring love into all their lives.

Hooray!!!! another Brit movie with unlikeable chav characters and (probably) a hard soundtrack.
The UK indie industry is probably the worst in the world right now in terms of making original films that make their money back.
How about a UK film without chavs or gangsters?? Just a thought.

what u must be living under a rock my dear chap... whab about that amazing flick SHIFTY? or that other great movie Adulthood (follow up to kidulthood)???
oh wait no actually, they are both chav infested and gangster themed.....utter ...crap.
joking aside, theres that newish flick with danny dyer, city rats..its gangsters again, but this time a little more arty and weird. not too bad. nowehre near a real representation of london thou.

for good contemporary brit cinema i d recommend FIVE MINUTES OF HEAVEN. quite the overworked subject again (the troubles in northeren ireland etc) but outstanding acting in this one. really great.

Actually that is what is wrong with the UK industry - you can stick Danny Dyer in a film and it makes money even if it's awful.

Hey Disillusioned, don't be quick to judge, this film is something else. It's not a cliche ridden Brit swagger-fest, but a really good story, told exceptionally well. Seriously, Dyer may be a bit of a gimp, but there are still some talented people in UK film.

Good point - If I can force myself to watch it and it is good, I will happily admit I am wrong.
The whole discovering the actress on the train just reminded me of that Brit film 'Long Time Dead' when the director discovered the actress when she was shopping with her mum. Left a sour taste it was so bad...
I'm just sick of Brit gangster/chav and zombie films - that's all that seems to come out of the UK, good or bad. Why is it only other countries that turn our imaginative stories like Primer, Pan's Labyrinth, Memento and Donnie Darko.
When I go to the cinema I want escapism, not reminding of the pathetic and apathetic country I grew up in with all its numerous social and class issues.
Anyway rant over. No more.

well british cinema has a long history of great social realistic movies ala ken loach (ladybird ladybird, scum). thats what really made it stand out for a long time.
to me, the most interesting phase was always the hammer film era and its post inspired flicks such as showel grave and then 28 days later.
maybe Michael J. Bassett's new Solomon Kane movie can bring out a new new trend for amazing phanatasy movies, id love that. they are also making a kind of alice in wonderland set in london with guess who- yes danny dyer. so maybe that will go a similar way...

Why is Andrea Arnold so acclaimed? Her work consists of 2D working class people with massive chips on their shoulders who enjoy screaming. She may as well go and direct EastEnders.
