Christopher Webster [Celluloid 07.22.09] post apocalyptic movie news scifi horror thriller

"the best visual comparison to LEGION are not other horror films but contemporary war films like PLATOON and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN." -- Scott Stewart

A couple of months back I wrote a lengthy expose on Legion, the upcoming religious apocalypse flick starring Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Kate Walsh, Kevin Durand and Lucas Black as survivors holed up in a diner in the desert and Paul Bettany as the angel Michael.

Now, we're seeing the first promo art for the film courtesy of MPC (via: /Film) who took some spy shots during comic con set up.

Synosis:
After a terrifying Biblical apocalypse descends upon the world, a group of strangers stranded in a remote truck stop diner in the Southwest unwittingly become humanity's last line of defense when they discover the diner's young waitress is pregnant with the Messiah.

While I think the art is striking, it's definitely more OTT religious than I was expecting, what with the no shirt and wings and all. You can see two larger images after the break at the end of our Legion gallery.

The 10/07 draft of the screenplay for this reads like a $4 horror paperback. Something Richard Laymond would have thrown in the trash. I'm a big Paul Bettany fan and hope he can add some depth to this otherwise Constantine-esque guns-blazing action flick. This film looks no brains and all brawn, but some folks are into that.
