quietearth [Celluloid 04.27.09] movie apocalyptic news scifi

I've actually been clocking this film for some time but have only been able to find behind the scenes pics which really didn't show much of anything, but apparently it's been a big budget (and destruction) production that's been shot all over the place. Directed by brothers Arnaud Larrieu and Jean-Marie Larrieu and set in 2016, the film is adapted from Dominique Noguez’s eponymous novel, which opens with a television announcement by the French President: "There is no longer any hope of survival!" The book’s narrator – a screenwriter recovering from a break-up – sets out on a true odyssey. He travels through deserted cities that have been struck by earthquakes and epidemics, and are plagued by gangs of killers. But he also crosses paths with old friends, women who soothe his anguish during the last days of the world and a strange billionaire who throws a final orgy. No, this isn't Before the Fall but it sounds awesome.

The official synopsis:
It's the last days on earth; a global apocalypse is about to destroy all mankind. As a final quest, a man (Robinson) sets on a journey from France to Spain, searching for the woman he once madly loved (Laetitia).

But as the world is turning upside down, Robinson’s odyssey takes an unexpected turn: most people - in the light of panic - have decided to simply enjoy their last days on the planet...In deserted castles and empty hotels, the few remaining survivors Robinson meets abandon themselves to some last moments of pleasure and lust.

Still, Robinson, though not refusing some temptations, is determined to reunite one last time with Laetitia, even if this means heading back to the high danger zone Paris...

What would you do if the world was to end tomorrow?

Hopefully we can find some footage soon.

This sounds *a lot* like Don McKellar's "Last Night".
