Christopher Webster [Celluloid 11.16.08] post apocalyptic movie news



A viral marketing site for Roland Emmerich's latest apocalyptic epic, 2012, has been spotted. Made to look like an official web page for an organization that called The Institute for Human Continuity, the site offers a slightly conspiratorial look into what may lurk underneath the plot of the film.

You may remember a while back some news emerged that giant man made arks (that's right, Arks as in Noah and the...) would play a role in 2012. Well, an ark can only hold so many people right? And, in the case of a worldwide flood, who decides who survives and who gets left to drown? That's where The IHC comes into play as, from the looks of it, survivors are chosen by a lottery they're sponsoring. You can get your own ticket on the site by entering in some personal info, like name and email.

I told my friend 2 yrs ago about this marketing scheme using the 2012 mayan calander myth. Its funny how 2 yrs later i was right.
It is all a myth and the mind is very powerful. Powerful enough to make this into a reality.

Hi, I used to have panic attacks alot but have not had one for 4 years. I didnt believe the add but never the less it gave me a fuckin panic attack and I am talking to a lawyer who says I have a case against Sony and the affeliate web companies. People seem to forget the original broadcast of "War of the Worlds" long story short, so many people thought the radio broadcast was real they killed themselves and many others had long lasting mental disorders. There are some real truth to some of this, but the outcome cannot be predicted and the movies take real posible situations and then make it some of the worst case senarios.
First, there will be a galactic alignment late Dec 2012.
The planets of our solar system will be in a rare alignment, relevetitly close but not a perfect alignment, and the gravitational pull from the planets could have some effects to our sun or planet or both. This real event could create solar flares on the sun that could harm Earth's magnetic feild, also could cause earthquakes and volcano eruptions from the planetary alignment.

Whether this is true or not getting on a boat or going underground isn't going to save us; If things are going to happen the way they put it. I have strong faith in God, and anything science says doesn't put God in the picture. If this happens and you believe in God, I will assure you God will be there too. I advise everybody to read revelations out of Bible. Also, nobody knows when the world is going to end..ONLY GOD. So don't fret over these predictions. Alignments have happened, same with solar flares. Mayan calender isnt ending, its just beginning a new cycle. The "doctors" are characters in the story(the pictures look like pictures youd get from a movie rather than documentaries or real life pictures), the site looks "real" so they can cash into the hype. The lottery.. Well i looked all over the website it said something about getting some tarp, a ladder and some other stuff, youll probably win that, tickets to the movie, and movie merchandise. Whoever actually believes this, well, you're lame :p.

I don't agree with the hype for the 2012 being used in this manner. However, the Mayans aren't the only one predicting the end. Scientists are agreeing there will be alignment of the Milky Way and the planets which will cause a polar shift. I suggest you read the book Apocalypse 2012 and see just how many weather related things are already happening. Try to keep an open mind, you never know.

I was watching The History Channel when I saw the commercial for the first time last night. I looked at my boyfriend and said (I didn't see that it said "This film is not yet Rated" at the end of the commercial/trailer), "Are they serious? They have a f***ing lottery for this bulls**t? I immediately went to the website and it only took me about 120 seconds to realize that it was Sony Pictures instilling unnecessary fear into people's heads. I am PISSED OFF that they have the balls to screw with people's minds like this. I can't even imagine how many people have panicked over this trailer and how many millions of emails/names/personal info Sony has received. I did want to see the movie, it looked awesome, but this just made me not want to see it now. Some people think that December 2012 will be another Y2K, while others believe that the world will "blow up" or end completely. I believe neither. While scientific evidence PROVES that some things will occur in 2012, I do believe that life as we know it, will change.

No they are pretty serious about this from my research, someone is. It could be in fact a watered down effect so it can get the public to not believe it in the near future. But one thing is certain, if not in 2012 or 2009 I can make the certain prediction of one of the following happening. Our star expands and kills us, a huge asteroid hits us, a gamma ray burst from the sun frying the Atmosphere and earth crust, the Earth passing the Galactic plane causing an axis shift, a solar shift tossing our planet into deep positions further than we are now, a wandering black hole hitting us, our Galaxy colliding with another galaxy drawn to each other by their super black holes the size of 500,000 suns, radiation from a super massive black hole of a neighboring galaxy if we are unlucky enough to be in it's path, the "big crunch" our Universe finally gets tired of expanding and implodes all over again from a theorized Singularity. I really just think, the universe is just a huuuge cell to us, and we are on the inside, with all the other neurons and protons etc. And the cycle continues in both direction small and large for infinity. So it really doesn't matter what we think or believe in, cause if the sh__ went down, there is nothing you can do.

EVERYONE needs to research all the data around 2012. From my personal research, I believe there will be some major event, that may be devestating to the world population. The movie was made to numb the public, or water down the event as some have said, because the issue has grown into such a wildfire and could threaten our civilizations stability. We can not be for sure what may happen, but we can know for sure something will happen. Those who go crazy preparing for the event may find themselves in a load of debt if nothing devestating happens, and those who don't believe in the event may find themselves in a state of shock and panic. I myself am not going crazy over the event, preparing, etc., nor am I dismissing it as hype or bulls__t. Instead I have learned how to survive off the land, so if something does happen, I can go off in to the woods to live, away from the chaos I know would erupt in towns and cities. The IHC website may be to promote the movie, but the movie is warning of what could come to be reality.

I think this is so stupid. I have a 10 month old and to think that she wouldn't be able to grow or even reach 4 freaks me out. Everyone deep down does think about stuff like this all the time. This is a MOVIE. The IHC is the website for a game. If you win and become the "New World Leader", you win a R/T for two to Cancun (Coach, by the way. They scare the hell out of us all and then send us via coach to Mexico), and you sign up for tix (Did anyone notice you have to be either 13 or 18 to get a ticket to play the game? Oops..I mean "LOTTERY"..LOL) They use your info to try and sell you stuff. On the Sony website, they have a list of companies they own, and IHC isn't listed because it isn't real. They DO, however, run a little hokey website that looks fairly real, with the exception that most of the time, half the screen is missing...lol. As for the Mayans, they have a much longer calendar than this one. THIS particular one starts over at one when it reaches the end. They used all their info to help to grow crops. All they did was keep records, not predict anything. Do we freak out every 12 months? No. Neither did the Mayans. They celebrated. As for NASA, they're saying there are no threats to Earth. As for the pole shift, that takes over 5 thousand years to go through. Also, with regard to the universe lining up with the milky way, planets, etc., it's called Winter Solstice. It happens TWICE PER YEAR. The other one is called Summer Solstice. Also, the sun flares every 11 years, and we've never felt it before, nor will we this time. We "MAY", and this is a long shot, we ""MAY"" have no cell or internet for a little while till they get it back up. No biggie. Lastly, when the planets & milky way all line up, as I said, it happens every 6 months; the only difference this time is that the sun will be 0.10 degrees off from where it normally is, which is less than half the size of the Earth, so nothing to fear there, either. Ummm... there is no planet X as we've recently found... What else is there to cover? DON'T FREAK OUT! Sony is just doing this big thing for one, to promote their movie, 2012 (That's why they pushed back the release date..long story) and 2., they think that this will make people more aware, and they can head the research and get boocoo bucks from the government to keep "Green" and set up things like...oh, probably what Reagan tried; The Star Wars Project. It's a giant lazer that can blow asteroids, etc. out of the path of Earth. (I actually wish Reagan could have passed that) They (NASA)know within like 40 million years what will eventually hit the planet. They see a LOT more than you can imagine. If they aren't worried, neither am I. Until then, Sony may be trying to make us appreciate what we have and to make us scared enough to take better care of it. (Hell of a bad way to do it but it seems to be working) I'm not too thrilled about kids home alone who saw their little video game commercial, nor am I happy to have to explain all this BS to MY kids. I think it will terrorize a lot of people to the point of suicide. Didn't take much for Hail Bop, now did it? They feared one little shooting star and BAM! 40+ are dead. Can you imagine the outcome of THIS???? Yikes. Just live and love like there's no tomorrow, and if you believe in God, remember that he said "I will come like a thief in the night; NO MAN will know when I will come for my children. Not even the angels in Heaven will know." And even though you may not see it, when tragedies do happen, God reaches down his hand and pulls you up so you don't have to suffer. You may not see him, but he's always there. Even if you have another 100 years on this planet, pray, be grateful of what you have, and treat others like it's your last day on Earth, because you never know when your time may come. Make your life the greatest and best you can! Really ENJOY your life and always keep God in your heart. Things will be just fine. I'll repost in 2013 to see how you're all doing, then drinks at my house! See you there! Sorry.... one last comment. Fortunately not as long as my last..lol. If you DO see posts where people are trying to scare the hell out of you, just keep in mind that there are thousands and thousands of people on the net (and other places) that are selling survival kits, t-shirts, or what-have-you, and more are cashing in on this everyday. This is their ONLY income in most cases. They will scare you, lie to you, or do ANYTHING it takes to get you SOOO terrified that you'll run out and buy their stuff & visit their sites (web hits= $$). Just keep your eyes open to this, and remember, there's a ton of propaganda out there. It's a lot of hype, and it pays off big to scare you to death. Just be smart, be safe, & be mindful of the economy. There are a ton of desperate people that would rather make money this way than lose their homes their families live in. In one respect, I feel sorry for them because it's a nightmare to lose your home and security. I also feel sorry for them because they can never wash the blood from their hands from the many deaths their fear may cause. Sad if you think about it really. Sorry to leave you on such a somber note. Just remember not to take things at face value. If you're scared of something, first, consider the source. Second, go to the top if you have to. Just because someone writes a book doesn't make him or her a genious. If they warn you of the stars, go directly to NASA. There's always Snopes.com, too. Don't panic first. Get answers. Get CORRECT answers. If you need help, Google contact numbers for NASA or whomever is supposedly threatening you & your family's security. Just don't take what you read on the net at face value. i'll have to see the commercial again to check out that "film is unrated" thing(i missed that little peice of info),
but everyone here has a point. maybe it IS "just a commercial". but maybe it's not. maybe they are actually down-playing on a serious threat to earth.
if this is a just a commercial or a hoax, registering at the "lottery" won't exactly hurt you. and if this thing is for real, then registering COULD help you survive. for those of you in who can't make up your minds of whether this is real or not, i'd register just to be on the safe side 'cause again: REGISTERING WON"T HURT YOU!

Well I have been researching this stuff for 10 years now..And It is actually true..The movie 2012 was only to give people ideas of what they will be looking forward to..I can tell you that the government will not tell anyone because they need world order..They will only choose certain people for there survival...It has actaully happened this event almost 4,000 years ago.. It is nature, it has happened and will happened again..They have 100% proof that it will happen..the winter solstice is Dec 21, and it is a timeline, that earth does go through this..It is like a rebirth..Not everyone will dissapear from the face of the earth...If that did happen none of you would be here today..It is normal, but the reason noone believes it, it is because noone has ever witnessed it..I can assure you this it will happen history repeats itself..And even if it does not, why would you take that chance to begin with...
