Christopher Webster [Celluloid 11.14.08] post apocalyptic zombies movie news

Awesome awesome news this morning folks. Paramount has announced that Quantum of Solace director, Marc Forster, will be helming the adaptation of Max Brook's World War Z! This is a project that's been in development forever and I couldn't be more excited that it's finally moving ahead. Here's what Forster had to say about project:

"The genre always fascinated me, and when they pitched it to me, it reminded me of the paranoid conspiracy films of the '70s like 'All the President's Men,'"

I like this news for a couple reasons. First, I'm just glad the movie is finally moving forward. Second, I really believe that for this film to live up to its potential, a director who doesn't usually do horror or zombie films needs to do it. Someone like Forster will take whatever genre he's working in very seriously. I'm pretty confident he'll be able to make a serious and sober political film without loosing site of the horror element. At least I don't think he'll go too Kite Runner on us.

In case you missed it, we reviewed J. Michael Straczynski's epic screenplay a while back. It's huge and full of awesomeness and will no doubt set a new standard for smart zombie pictures.

See reasons for excitement above... and I sorta doubt Pitt will be acting in the film.

Quantum of Solace is entertaining at least... a fantastic job with the styling and picture quality, but the movie as a whole could stand to lose six or seven fewer chase scenes

I'll reiterate that my dream director for this project is the master at this type of movie-making, Peter Watkins

All The President's Men is a paranoid conspiracy movie? That's the first time I've ever heard it described in such a bizarre way. Parallax View, maybe, but All The President's Men? Huh?
