Right now I only have two steelbook dvd's in my collection and I consider them both treasures. They are The Quiet Earth and David Lynch's Dune, and I've often wished that more films were released in this style of packaging. For one thing they look awesome and, as I've stated before, I'm something of a nutter for nice packaging. But even more importantly, it means that my collection has a better chance of surviving the apocalypse.
What if I told you that in Germany virtually every film, be it big or small budget, is released in beautiful steelbook dvd? Not only that but the artwork is kick ass across the board? Don't believe me? Take a gander at some awesome examples after the break.
Thing's that made me jealous:
- The Mist (or Die Nebel) is available in a massive 3-disc steelbox in Germany.
- I actually want to own Cube Zero now.
- The Mutant Chronicles is already available on DVD!

I hate Europe! They, along with Asia, always get the cool stuff.

Uhmm... I know germany releases a lot of films in steelbooks but they're hardly alone in that area. I mean, virtually every country is just booming with steelbooks. Or am I missing something? Here's a good site listing a whole bunch of steelbooks released all around the world (not very updated but it should give you an idea of how much stuff is out there)... http://www.steelbooks.de.vu/

This post was just meant to be fun and not in anyway comprehensive but thanks for the link. My main gripe is just that we here in NA are hooped when it comes to steelbooks. All hail internet shopping!

Dont worry, we only get the odd Steelbook pop up here in England so dont feel too left out.
They do look REALLY cool though!!

I'm from Germany and I HATE these steelbooks! They make DVDs cost up to 15 bucks more, don't fit into my DVD shelf and the covers scratch pretty easily. (Well, not THAT easy, but it happens always, when you don't expect that.)
