Underwhelmed er.... I mean Underworld 2 was something of a loud, confused mess but I still watched it when it eventually arrived on DVD. Since I'll probably do the same when Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans hits, I thought I'd indulge in viewing the new trailer that dropped for it today. Since it doesn't look any worse than the last installment I figured I'd post it up and rant about why Rohna Mitra aint no Kate Beckinsale. As a Doomsday fan I obviously love Ms. Mitra but having Kate Beckinsale in the series was the only way I could convince my wife to watch the movies with me. Now all I can do is bribe her with 2 hour foot massage!
The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Michael Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
The prequel is directed by an ex make up artist and costume designer named Patrick Tatopoulos which is why the costumes look so cool. It'll be interesting to see if the film is as interesting.

I forgot there was supposed to be a third UW movie.
Aren't Death Dealers the caste of body guard-types that protect the vampire aristocracy? The summary makes it sound like vampire and "death dealer" are interchangeable.

This movie def looks pretty good. I liked the first two a lot, and of course loved Kate Beckingsale in them but I have always loved Rhona Mitra as well, they are both just absolutly gorgeous. I would see no reason to have Kate Beckinsale in this would though because it is a prequel and she may not have been born yet. Maybe we figure out where Selene(Kate Beckensale) comes from. For all we know, Sonja(Rhona) could be her mother.
