Basically, I'm planning on using Eden Lake a litmus test to decide how cruel I should be to writer /director James Watkins when The Descent 2 eventually drops. I'm kidding of course, but Watkins better have his fingers crossed that his very ill-advised sequel doesn't make a mockery of one of the best British horror flicks in history. That's all I have to say about that. We covered Eden Lake briefly when that scary looking teaser poster dropped back in May, but now that Eden Lake is making the festival rounds and getting some nice early buzz, I figured I'd bring it back to the forefront of Quiet Earth conversation. Here's what its about: When nursery teacher Jenny (Kelly Reilly) escapes to the country for a relaxing weekend away with her boyfriend, she is unaware of a romantic surprise he has in store. The location is perfect. A lake enclosed by woodlands, seemingly deserted. The scene is set for a picturesque proposal. But before the happy couple can enjoy the retreat, their peace is shattered by a gang of violent youths. What begins is a shocking and unrelenting game of cat-and-mouse, as Jenny is forced to fight back against her aggressors. It's sort of hard not to notice the poster's reminiscence to similar French horror flick Ils, so it'll be interesting to see what Watkins brings to the genre that's new. Sorry, no trailer yet but stills after the break
