Christopher Webster [Celluloid 07.09.08] post apocalyptic movie apocalyptic news action

Okay here's a confession for ya; I really really like John Milius' Red Dawn. Sure, its a right wing Cold War fantasy with a political message bordering on Fascism but hot dog is it fun! Plus, it's intensely apocalyptic in tone as well as unapologetically brutal in its depiction of how the erupting of WW3 on American soil would completely transform our western way of life. But if ever there was a product of the 80s Red Dawn would be it which makes me wonder how well the film would play to audiences today. It'll probably play it safe and feature terrorists instead of commies or something. But anyway, there's now no question that the remake is moving forward as the Hollywood Reporter is saying that screenwriter Carl Ellsworth (Red Eye/Disturbia) and first time director Dan Bradley (2nd unit director on The Bourne Ultimatum/Quantum of Solace) will be taking on the project. More details after the break.

Says Ellsworth of his ideas for Red Dawn: "The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in... as Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"
