So if you've been paying attention you'll know that Alex Proyas' visual stunner Dark City is considered somewhat of a masterpiece around these parts so I imagine I won't be alone in saying that I don't necessarily think it is in need of any extra tweaking. It looks and plays as well today as it did in 1998 so, besides a polished transfer, a better soundtrack remix, and some decent extras, I don't see what else you'd need from any DVD re-release. Nevertheless, it would appear that writer David Goyer has confirmed to BD that, to support an upcoming DVD and BR re-release, the film will be receiving some FX tweaks, a re-editing job, and perhaps even a limited theatrical run. More about these changes after the break.

Said Goyer about the new Dark City DVD: "It's coming out fairly soon [and will] probably have limited theatrical, but Im not sure. I have seen almost all of it and I took part in an over hour long making-of."

"[They re-did] the score and the cuts a little longer," he reveals, "all of the parties involved did fairly lengthly interviews with us, they'll be included on there."

So what do you all think about Proyas pullin' a Lucas on Dark City? Personally I can't wait to get my mitts on a more comprehensive Dark City collection (as long as they don't loose the Roger Ebert commentary) but the last thing the film needs is bunch of CGI.
