quietearth [Celluloid 03.20.08] post apocalyptic movie news scifi vampires

The Spierig brothers, known for their completely awesome zombie alien film Undead, return with a PA vampire flick, and while this has been in the works down in Australia since last year, we've heard nothing about it. I managed do dig up a still for it, which includes stars Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe, and you can see it to the right, but have been unable to find anything further. The film revolves around a deadly plague which breaks out in the year 2017, turning most of the human population into vampires. The dominant vampires plot a way to ensure their survival in the face of dwindling blood supplies, but a researcher (Hawke) works with a rogue group of vampires to save humankind. Sounds great, doesn't it?

To tell the truth, no it doesn't. Why be so complicated? Why not just have another good old fashioned plague film where a group of people have to survive? (Like The Quiet Earth!) And there just seems to be a spate of films now where the vampires are "scientifically" explained away. I miss the old fashioned spooky unknown origins of them.

this film has an awesome plot - not what you'd expect from the paragraphs they keep releasing.

can't wait for it to come out...
